Born as Harikrishna Giri Goswami on July 24, 1937, in Abbottabad (now in Pakistan), Manoj Kumar moved to Delhi after the Partition. He adopted the screen name "Manoj Kumar" after being inspired by Dilip Kumar's character in the film Shabnam (1949). Driven by dreams and immense talent, he entered the Hindi film industry in the late 1950s and quickly established himself with performances in films like Shaadi (1962) and Hariyali Aur Rasta (1962).
The Birth of Bharat Kumar
While his initial career saw romantic and dramatic roles, it was the 1965 war with Pakistan that transformed Manoj Kumar’s cinematic vision. His film Shaheed (1965), based on the life of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, struck a chord with the audience. But it was Upkar (1967), inspired by then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri's slogan "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan," that earned him the tag of Bharat Kumar — a title that would define his career and legacy.In Upkar, Kumar played a farmer who also serves the nation as a soldier. - Kranti (1981) – One of the biggest blockbusters of its time, portraying the fight for Indian independence.
